Why Flake

Why flake epoxy dominates
garage floors

Four reasons flake systems have been the contractor and homeowner default for decades — and why the good ones still hold up.

01

Full broadcast hides everything

The decorative flake chips are broadcast to rejection, meaning the flake layer completely covers the floor. Minor cracks, oil stains, and surface imperfections disappear under the system.

02

Built for vehicle traffic

Flake systems use a high-build epoxy base rated for vehicular traffic. Hot tire pickup resistance. Chemical resistance. The kind of durability a garage actually needs.

03

Endless color options

Flake blends come in dozens of color combinations. We stock gray, tan, brown, charcoal, and custom blends. Pick the color that matches your garage aesthetic — or let us suggest a combination.

04

Slip-resistant by design

The texture of the broadcast flake plus optional anti-slip aggregate in the topcoat creates a surface with genuine grip — especially critical in Florida rain where water tracks in from driveways.

Questions

Common questions about
flake epoxy

Flake (chip) epoxy uses decorative color flakes broadcast over an epoxy base coat. Metallic epoxy uses metallic pigment powders hand-guided to create swirling liquid-metal effects. Flake is more traditional and durable for garage use. Metallic is a premium decorative option for showroom-quality aesthetics.
10–15+ years with normal use. The system starts with diamond grinding for mechanical adhesion — no coating bonds better to concrete than a properly prepped surface. Cheap coatings skip this step, which is why they peel within a few years.
Yes. We use an epoxy base coat rated for vehicular traffic with a polyaspartic topcoat. Hot tire pickup is a concern with cheaper polyurea-only systems — not with a properly spec'd epoxy/polyaspartic system.
Sweep or blow out debris. Mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals. The surface is non-porous so oil and fluid spills wipe right up — no soaking in, no staining.
